Timelines for all services are determined on a per-project basis, with a minimum turnaround of two weeks. Any length of text is accepted. For text shorter than 2000 words, a minimum rate of 2000 words will be applied. Rates may differ with genre and subject matter.

Editorial Evaluation

For manuscripts between 30,000-100,000 words

  • Focuses on determining the next steps to bring the text to completion.

  • Includes a thorough assessment of a draft or finished piece to identify areas for improvement. You’ll receive an editorial response with my insights into your manuscript’s strengths as well as its main issues, such as structure, pacing, flow, and narrative.

Substantive Editing

  • Focuses on refining and improving an entire text from top to bottom.

  • Improves structure and clarity of content as well as readability, syntax, word choice, style, and incorrect or awkward phrasing.

  • Includes full line editing, detailed editorial feedback, and a one-hour discussion call.

Copy Editing

  • Focuses on grammar, spelling, punctuation, and internal consistency as well as overall clarity and sentence structure.

  • Research citations, fact-checking and formatting will be corrected where applicable.

  • Suitable for a finished text (i.e., a text that has already been edited for content) that has not been formatted for publication.

Proofreading

  • Focuses on surface-level issues that may have been overlooked during copy editing.

  • Improves typographical errors. If necessary, very minor line edits may be suggested.

  • Suitable for a finished text. The last step before publication or submission.

  • Creation of an index for a finished, fully formatted manuscript.

  • Can be combined with proofreading.

Trial Edit

I offer a trial edit to determine if my skills are a good fit for your project. All trial edits are $20 for an excerpt of ~1000-1200 words. Please mention you would like to do a trial edit in your initial inquiry.
